What is a COVIDPunk?
COVIDPunks are 10,000 randomly-generated Punks on the Ethereum network. Each Punk is wearing a programmatically-assigned, W.H.O-approved mask, and has special pandemic-themed metadata that affects its background color and rarity. Some Punks (e.g. Aliens, Apes, and more) are much rarer than others.
Upon completion of the project, the team will donate 10Ξ to COVID-19 relief in India, a country devastated by late stages of the Delta COVID variant.
Our Origin Story
Inspired by the legendary CryptoPunks NFT series, Hank Waddle, our grizzled, fearless leader, hunkered down during quarantine and learned to program the "big computer machine". Thrilled by his newfound skills and horrified by the ongoing global pandemic, Hank set himself on a mission to make a positive impact in the world.
Hank considered his options at length. It was only upon contracting a case of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that he realized the fatal flaw of all Punk-type NFT projects: NO respect for COVID-19 protocol.
Let's face it, people. In the original punks project by Larva Labs, only 175 out of 10,000 punks are wearing a "medical mask." Are you kidding me? What flagrant disregard for public safety!
Hank aims to correct that. As such, COVIDPunks are randomly generated using Hank's patent-pending "Hank-o-Mask-o-Generato' Program" which assigns a handsome, fresh mask to every punk. You might recognize such favorites as the KN-95, as well as a handful of faceshields for the most COVID-conscious of Punks!
Early on, Hank realized he could use the project to do good in the world, by earmarking funds for COVID-19 relief charity. Read our Roadmap for more details!
COVIDPunk FEATURES
COVIDPunks stand out with new attributes that are randomly generated by Hank's "big computer machine." In addition to an assortment of W.H.O.-approved personal protective equipment, each punk features brand new metadata based on real-world COVID infection and vaccination statistics:
COVID INFECTION STATUS:
Based on real-world probability, each Punk is minted HEALTHY or INFECTED with COVID-19. A HEALTHY punk is given a blue background, and an INFECTED punk is given a red background.
VACCINATION STATUS:
Each Punk also had a chance of being VACCINATED with one of three curiously familiar vaccines. VACCINATED Punks are significantly less likely to also be INFECTED. Yellow is added to the background of every VACCINATED punk.
BACKGROUND DETERMINATION:
Because some of these new traits can be stacked, the background colors of Punks with multiple statuses are mixed, giving HEALTHY + VACCINATED Punks a green background and INFECTED + VACCINATED Punks an orange background. Sweet!
RARITY FRAMES
Each punk also has a specially-colored frame to indicate its relative rarity and, roughly, its value. As you know, although each punk is unique, some possess traits that are extremely rare! This visual tool will make it easier for you to determine your Punk's value.

OUR MISSION
It's no secret that the Blockchain is revolutionary, especially in the realm of digital art. As an artist, creator, and miserly old man, Hank is excited to participate in this early-stage open source renaissance. Sadly, there are bandits afoot in this fledgling industry: Hank and the team have been burned too many times in altcoin rugpulls and $500 NFT projects. So, we've taken matters into our own hands by creating an affordable NFT that will contribute to charity.
For Hank, the most important element of this project is education: blockchain media education for him and his team, educating fellow developers keen to enter the space, and educating the public about the importance of masking up and getting vaccinated. But, Hank and the team also want to make a concrete difference in the lives of those most affected by the pandemic. For this reason, we have decided to donate 10Ξ to COVID-19 relief in India. We aim to create NFTs that are fun, affordable, and impactful. Following the success of COVIDPunks, Hank and the team plan to make greater contributions to this space. We thank you for joining us at the start of this great journey!
